The advantages of insulating glass are well known and even legally prescribed for decades. Insulating class has the advantage of conventional glazing regarding the insulation of the building on the one hand and high savings of energy and cost.
A former weakness of insulation was the window frame. Its R-values not good compared to the R-values of the glazing.
With the development of windows for passive houses we could transfer the outstanding insulation qualities of double glazing to the frame construction as well.
When looked at from the outside, windows for passive houses do not differ from standard windows.
But inside the window oriels - almost invisible - is an insulating core which gives the window great R-values.
